BSN Registration on a 3-Month Rental
A 3-month stay is comfortably long enough to make full use of BSN registration. You can register your Amsterdam address with the municipality from day one of your tenancy — the document required is your City Retreat tenancy agreement. Your BSN then unlocks a Dutch bank account, health insurance, employer payroll and almost every other official process in the country.
Anyone staying more than 4 months is legally required to register in the BRP (Basisregistratie Personen); for shorter stays, including most 3-month bookings, you can register as a non-resident in the RNI to receive a BSN for administrative purposes. What If You Need to Extend Past 3 Months?
Very common, and straightforward. City Retreat contracts are indefinite with no fixed end date, so extending simply means continuing — there's no renewal paperwork or renegotiation required. If your stay reaches 4 months, the 10% long-stay discount is applied automatically to the full period, including the first 3 months you already booked.
If your plans shift the other way and you need to leave earlier than planned, one calendar month's notice is all that's required — no penalty, no lock-in.
